DISMISS | UTOPIA

Utopia was presented in Eleusis at the opening of the 10th exhibition of Eleusinian Artists entitled as Utopian Cities and curated by Anastasia Dalma. In this case Utopia was conceived as an attempt to experience “forever”, as an ideal form – body posture. Having chosen lots of different stills from movies (mainly Godard and Rohmer because of the simplicity in forms and the archetypal feminine and masculine fgures) i asked the 35 volunteers that were gathered after an open call to choose one picture, fnd their couple and imitate the body posture. Then all the couples, one after the other, would fnd their position in the location, the sidewalk next to the sea at the old refreshment room in Eleusis. They would then stay immobile creating a sculpture of fgures that would decompose gradually. As hard as they tried to stay still, at some point every participant would leave the composition. The idea of loss and connection was experienced and represented in the dynamics that would grow individually, in couples, or in relation to the whole group. The soundscape of the performance, was a list of names written by the participants to represent the losses they had in their lives, imaginary and real ones. Every person that left the group would go to the microphone and read the list in loop until the next one would take his place. The body installation was lightened by a green fashing beacon.
